Four people were Sunday morning killed and ten seriously wounded in an accident that involved a bus, a canter and a van in Kijabe area.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when the bus rammed onto the other two vehicles before it rolled. 33 others who sustained minor injuries were rushed to the Kijabe hospital.
The incident saw the road closed for long as rescuers from Kenya Red Cross rushed to save the injured. Police said they are investigating the incident and that the injured were in stable condition in hospital.
The wreckage of the three vehicles were taken to Lari District Police Station.
A witness said the van had broken down on the road but no safety or warning signs had been placed to warn or notify the oncoming traffic.
In Nairobi along Valley Road, seven other people were injured in an accident that involved a lorry and three salon cars near the NPC church.
The injured were rushed to hospital.
Nairobi Area head of traffic Patrick Lumumba said speeding was the cause of the accident.
“As always, we urge for caution from motorists, pedestrians and other road users. There is no need for people to speed to nowhere,” he said.
Nairobi – Mombasa Highway
Two other people were killed and 20 others seriously injured in another accident involving a bus and a trailer along the Nairobi – Mombasa Highway.
The bus driver is among those killed in the accident after the two vehicles collided head-on. The driver died while receiving treatment at Moi General Hospital in Voi.
Ten of the injured passengers were treated and discharged while the other ten are still in hospital.
The bus was ferrying passengers to Mombasa while the trailer was heading to Nairobi when the collision occurred.
Taita Taveta OCPD Nathaniel Aseneka urged drivers especially those driving at night to be careful.
Along Mombasa Road in Nairobi, a pedestrian was knocked down as he tried to cross the road. He was rushed to hospital in serious condition.
