A Ugandan has been arraigned in court in connection with the killing of a pregnant Teachers Service Commission employee.

James Kiwanuka, who was arrested at the Busia border while fleeing to Uganda, pleaded guilty to a robbery with violence charge.

Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Grace Macharia ordered he be remanded at the Industrial Area Police Station until next week, on Thursday, for police to complete investigations.

An affidavit signed by CID officer, John Shegu was produced in court by the prosecution in support of its application seeking more time for investigations. Shegu said the accused was arrested on January 30, in possession of some of the items stolen from the woman and Mr David Ngige Karanja in South B Estate, Nairobi.

Kiwanuka is charged in the first count that on January 17 while armed with a kitchen knife and metallic rods, he robbed Winfred Wanja of two cell phones, assorted clothes and an elector’s card, all valued at Sh57,000, and stabbed her to death.

The second count, to which he pleaded guilty, stated that on the same day, he robbed Mr Karanja of electronic items, a cheque and a motor vehicle, and wounded him with the knife.

Wanja was killed on January 17 and her body wrapped in a curtain and hidden under her sofa set for a week, when neighbours who noticed a smell from the house called the police.
