Seven people died in separate accidents.
In the first incident, police said, five people died along Mombasa Highway.
Three of them died on the spot after their lorry hit a stationary truck at Kiima Kiu, near Salama town at 11pm, on Friday.
One person died on the way to Machakos General Hospital while the other died while undergoing treatment. The accident was caused by heavy rains.
Police said the lorry was from Nairobi to Sultan Hamud to harvest sand. A nurse, Ms Jacinta Kondo, said the victims could not reach the hospital immediately after the accident.
In the other incident, two people were killed on Thursday night along the Narok-Mai-Mahiu highway.
The accident occurred at Siyapei and involved a Kisii bound matatu and a salon car heading to Nairobi.
Nine people in the matatu were seriously injured and admitted to Narok North District Hospital. Local OCPD Patrick Wambani attributed the accident to over-speeding. "The matatu was speeding and lost control before hitting the on-coming car," he said.
