Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss on Monday wed her longtime mzungu lover Dr Neil Horn, a Specialist Psychiatrist who consults in Kenya, the United Kingdom and South Africa in a traditional Koito ceremony.

Boss and Horn’s rite happened in an exclusive location in one of Nairobi’s leafy suburbs.

The venue was adorned with vibrant colours, traditional decorations, and an ambience that exuded love and joy.

The number of attendees was in the tens. Gladys adorned a red dress, which she accessorised with a Maasai neckpiece while Horn was in a navy blue overcoat and a white hat and trousers.

Those who attended the event described it as exclusive and the who-is-who in Gladys Boss’s circles attended.

One would have expected the Speaker of the National Assembly and the country’s top politicians to feature prominently in the traditional ceremony, given Boss’s stature in Kenyan politics, but friends in social and legal circles dominated the guest list.

Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha and Nairobi-based lawyer Donald Kipkorir topped the VIP list.

“Today, my BFF Gladys Boss and her husband Dr Neil Horn had a multicultural jamboree to celebrate their beautiful marriage.

“Gladys has been my BFF since August 1988: 35 YEARS TODAY. And our friend Health Minister Hon. Susan Nakhumicha Wafula was in attendance,” Kipkorir tweeted.

As tradition dictates, the dowry negotiations were done behind closed doors by elders.

“Our in-law (Horn) paid the negotiated number of cows and he has fulfilled what our traditions dictate,” an elder in the know says but does not reveal the amount of cash paid as dowry.

In a video that made rounds on social media, high-spirited women are seen joining Gladys Boss as they danced to Rose Cheboi’s Very Nice Tumdo (the ceremony is joyous).

The video also showed guests singing traditional Kalenjin songs. The danced while surrounding Boss and Horn.

Horn seemed to enjoy the songs and ululations as he danced and smiled next to Gladys Boss.

Mystery man

Little is known about Horn and how he met the love of his life – Gladys Boss, 49.

His LinkedIn profile states that he (Horn) serves as a self-employed specialist psychiatrist who works at the Chiromo Hospital Group on a part-time basis.

For the last year, Horn has warmed his new wife’s heart by offering his expertise in the Gladys Boss Shollei Foundation which offers free medical diagnosis and treatment in Uasin Gishu.

Chiromo Hospital Group, where Horn is reportedly a consultant has been part of health facilities offering support to patients in Gladys Boss Shollei Foundation.

“We are partnering with health specialists in creating mental health awareness because we have realised that mental health affects a number of people in our society. Being healthy is not all about physical health; mental health is very crucial as well,” Boss said in a previous interview.

She continued, “Other patients might take more medication and long-term support with psychologists and counsellors, and many have been able to receive that.”

Horn, according to his LinkedIn profile, also specialises in assessing and treating anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder as well as treatment-resistant health problems.

He also does consultation for mental health diagnosis and review of medication.

“My experience is that the vast majority of people with mental health problems make a good or excellent recovery with the correct psychological and medical treatment,” Horn describes himself in LinkedIn.

The wedding happened a week after her son, Dr Kim Kogos, also got married his lover Joy Cheptile.

“My heart was filled with joy and pride as my son Dr Kim Kogos married his most beautiful bride, Ms Joy Cheptile. As a mother to the groom, I wish the happy couple endless joy and abundant blessings,” she wrote on her Facebook page on July 31.

Gladys Boss was previously married to Sam Shollei.
