Parents of 18-year-old Daystar University student who 'died by suicide' cry foul

Parents of a first-year student at Daystar University, Athi River, Machakos County are now crying foul over the mysterious death of their daughter.

The 18-year-old, identified as Mercy Jeroni Kwambai was found dead in a washroom at the university.

Her parents have since poked holes into a police report that revealed she died by suicide.

According to the police report filed at the Athi River Police Station, preliminary investigations are pointing at suicide.

The case was reported on September 9, 2023, a day after she died.

"The death was reported by the University's security coordinator who stated that the body of a female first-year student was found lying in a pool of blood at the Patience West hostel washroom," the report read in part.

According to police, Kwambai who had just reported to the University five days before, had locked herself in the toilet and stabbed herself on the left side of the chest using a knife.

However, the family has questioned the report demanding thorough investigations to be conducted including a postmortem report to be availed.

The parents are set to address media on the matter, after a conclusive report.
