Uasin Gishu Woman Representative, Gladys Boss, has distanced herself from the Finland scholarship saga, saying she was not aware of what was going on.

She made the sentiments days after former Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago was arrested and charged alongside Meshack Rono and Joshua Kipkemboi.

Speaking during an interview on Spice FM’s Situation Room, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly called for the shutdown of the airlift program.

She adds that parents who paid money ought to be reimbursed their money.

“I was deliberately quiet because I did not know how this happened when I sought information on what transpired, I did not get the right information from the right authorities,” she stated.

“Despite my efforts to gather information on what transpired, I have encountered difficulties in obtaining accurate details from the appropriate sources. The current administration should have guided the applicants because they were the ones in charge of the accounts,”.

According to the lawmaker, Mandago failed to put in place a coherent framework by not informing parents about the additional financial costs they would be required to meet after the students embarked on their journey to Finland.

“I did not know how everything happened. I refrained from commenting due to unfamiliarity with the matter,” she says.

Further, she reveals that while she had heard about the (Harambees) taking place in different parts of her home county, she did not inquire about many details.

“Yes I heard about the Harambees happening, but the information we got which is public is that it was a scholarship and assumed that the county was paying for it,” she reiterates.

Mandago, now the Senator of Uasin Gishu County, and his co-accused were  released on a cash bail of Sh500, 000 after denying ten charges preferred against them by the Office Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
