Marie Wangui wins the 21st Kenya Diabetes Management Golf Tournament

Bubbly Marie Wangui is the winner of the 21st edition of the annual Kenya Diabetes Management and Information Center Charity Golf Tournament.

Playing off handicap 36, Wangui fired a round total of 42 stableford points to emerge the victor following brilliant displays at Vet Lab Sports Club on Friday.

Wangui beat an unprecedented record field of 210 golfers in a fundraising event where 187 cards were processed.

Wangui was over the moon with her performance, and elated to support a charity cause she holds dear.

"I'm so happy and grateful to both the sponsors for putting together a great event for a worthy cause towards better health," Wangui said.

Handicap 24, Charles Etemesi emerged the Men winner on a score of 4 stableford points.

John Mwaura and Robert Gitau took the men's third and fourth positions respectively on 39 stableford points each.

Fairest among the days lady golfers was handicap 15, Rachel Ndei who emerged as the Lady winner on a solid score of 40 stableford points. 

Agnes Muchemi was Lady winner second on a score of 37 stableford points.

Best Corporate prize was won by Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) quartet led by its Chairman Caleb Kositany 36, Adelbert Omooria 34, Robert Nyanchoga 34 and Innocent Rutamu also with 34 for a total team score of 138.

Best Team prize went to the foursome composed of JD Kinuthia 36, Francis Kimathi 35 and Kimani Waithaka 30 for a round total of 101 stableford points.

Longest Drive Men winner prize was won by Amar Taylor while Lydia Mokaya starred in the ladies section.

Nearest to the Pin Men prize was taken by William Wanjuki while Joyce Murigi was the Nearest to Pin Lady winner.

Taking the First Nine prize was Peter Muthiga with a score of 17 stableford points with JD Kinuthia taking Second Nine with 24 stableford points. 

The Kenya Diabetes Management and Information Centre is the brainchild of former Solicitor General, Wanjuki Muchemi who is its Founder Director and Executive Director.

 The Centre is a not-for-profit registered medical charity founded in May 1999 to educate the public about diabetes. This was in response to the alarm raised by various international and local organisations about the increase in the number of people diagnosed with diabetes.

Together with Muchemi's late wife Eva Muchemi, the medical charity has been fundraising to help the less fortunate within the society in slums and across the country access effective but affordable treatment and management of diabetes.
