Kiambu golfer Michael Karanga emerged the winner of the Manchester Salver title at the par 71 Eldoret Golf Club, on Sunday.

Karanga, who is the national amateurs record holder, was the man to watch during the tournament held in Eldoret, the city of champions.

His excellent improvement on playing golf could tell that he wants to extend his winning record.

After firing five under 208 to bag the best golfer's ticket, Karanga said he wants to set the national record by extending his winning record.

The soft-spoken Karanga broke Kopan Timbe’s national record during the Karen Challenge three weeks ago with 12 wins against Timbe’s 11. After his triumph in Eldoret, has managed 13 victories in one single season.

“The win did not come easy, I did a lot of practice. I feel honoured setting records in the country and I want to extend my winning ways,” said Karanga.

“I want to thank my colleagues for the good teamwork that has led to my success. I want to encourage new golfers to continue working hard and not to lose hope. Your days will come.”

Karanga took the round two lead after beating round one leader Josphat Rono from Golf Park, who was the round leader.

Phelemon Ruto, a marketing manager at Real Hospital in Eldoret, who represented the Managing Director Erick Ruto, said his facility will continue sponsoring golf tournaments.

He said Ruto, who is also president of Kenya National Chambers of Commerce and Industry, is committed to sponsoring golfers to ensure they excel beyond their expectation.
