DJ Joe Mfalme's friend charged with murder of DCI officer

Popular entertainer Allan Ochieng alias Hype Ballo was on Monday charged with the murder of a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer.

Ochieng denied the charges before Justice Dorah Chepkwony of the High Court in Kiambu.

According to the prosecution, the suspect killed Felix Kelian Kintosi, who was attached to the Kabete Police Station, on the Kikuyu Road in Kikuyu Township on March 16.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) filed an application for seven-day detention pending the completion of a social inquiry report by probation. The court granted the prosecution's request. Ochieng was arrested alongside six others, including Joseph Mwenda Munoru, popularly known as DJ Joe Mfalme, in connection with the murder.

However, the DPP on April 5 said Joe Mfalme, Eric Kariuki Gathua, Simon Wambugu Wanjiru, Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Cheruyot Rotich and Agnes Kerubo Mogoi had turned into State witnesses.

The investigating officer said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was involved in a minor car accident while driving his Subaru near the Kikuyu Police Station.

Wako, a traffic police officer, visited the scene and found the deceased being beaten. He was then taken to the police station as he complained of abdominal pain and was passing blood while urinating.

Kintosi was later released but his situation worsened on his way home and was rushed to the Nairobi West Hospital. He died on March 21.

His family, who suspected a cover-up, demanded a second autopsy after the first by a government pathologist showed he had an underlying condition. The second post-mortem revealed that he died of sudden cardiovascular collapse and blunt abdominal trauma.
