Singer Ben Pol and Anerlisa Muigai.

Tanzanian singer Ben Pol has opened up on how he was able to cope with his divorce process from his ex-wife, Keroche Heiress Anerlisa Muigai.

Speaking in a recent interview, the Moyo Mashine crooner said he put so much will and effort into the relationship that its ending was too difficult to bear on his own.

Ben Pol said assuming everything was okay would have done him more harm than good.

"After whatever happened in my personal life, in my opinion I felt that if someone was really in a relationship, that space and was really invested, you can't end things yesterday and tomorrow you move on with life like nothing happened," he said.

The Bongo Flava star said that he had to seek professional help to assist him in coping with the situation.

"I had to cope and the copying mechanism meant I had to see someone who is a professional with those things. Got some counselling and what not…. So it's true I was seeing a specialist, that I won't deny," he added.

The singer and his ex-wife ended their marriage hardly one year into their union. However, Ben Pol explained that he could not pinpoint the exact reason he opted to end their marriage.

"I cannot pinpoint one thing and say this is what happened. It is the universe that allowed us to go separate ways. Both of us. I can say it was God's plan," he said.

Unlike Anerlisa, who has since moved on to a new relationship, Ben Pol said that he is in no hurry to meet anyone new, adding that he is currently focused on working, travelling, and enjoying his life.

"I am kind of single. I have been busy working and traveling but I don't know what to say. That question might not help people but yes am single."

He, however, noted that in case a romantic opportunity presented itself, he would be open to dating and settling down once again.

"I am not looking for a lover but I am open to love and if love comes, I will be okay. I am just living my life genuinely and enjoying my life," he said.

Although Ben Pol's marriage ended sooner than expected, the singer said he picked up more life lessons from the relationship than regret.

"I don't regret it as it is just a phase to take lessons from," said Ben Pol.
