Ugandan dancehall star Cindy Sanyu has refuted claims that rebels held her hostage in DRC last month where a promoter who had contracted her to perform cancelled the show at the eleventh hour.

“The promoter cancelled the show for reasons unknown to us. He then suggested Cindy instead performs on Saturday (July 5), an offer Cindy rejected due to the fact that she already had other bookings scheduled for that weekend. The promoter then decided to hold Cindy and her manager hostage and confiscated their passports.

“Cindy then contacted her team in Kampala who in turn contacted the Ugandan Embassy in Kinshasa before her travel arrangements were made,” the singer’s Public Relations team clarified on Friday.
