More than 70,0000 condoms were distributed during the Masaku 7s rugby tournament held in Machakos.

Stanley Ngara, popularly known by many as the ‘King of Condoms,’ says he had come for the sports event that ended on July 5 with a lorry full of condoms and “unlike other events where you give out free condoms and find them thrown away, this time I didn’t see a single condom thrown away.

It’s nice that the youth have taken the use of condoms seriously.” Ngara is a programme officer with Liverpool Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centre.

He says it’s mostly women who snapped up the free condoms. “I had female condoms too, but many women quickly took the male condoms. There also needs to be an extensive awareness campaign on female condoms,” said Ngara.
