Kenya has entered two triathletes in the All Africa Triathlon/Duathlon Championships in Maputo, Mozambique

Swaleh Balala, a student at United States International University, and Reginald Lusala of Kericho leave tomorrow for the Maputo event.

The event is set for Monday and Tuesday and the Kenya Triathlon Association (KTA) Secretary General Harrison Mwangi who will be travelling as a technical official appointed by the African Triathlon Union will accompany them.

Meanwhile, KTA has replaced its chairman Said Suleiman and elevated his deputy Chrispin Omondi of Nairobi on an acting capacity.

Mwangi confirmed the changes and said Omondi would remain as acting until his appointment is ratified during Annual General Meeting.

He said Suleiman resigned after some parents claimed there were some discrepancies during the South Africa and Mauritius trips by Kenyan triathletes.

Mwangi said Sh800,000 could not be accounted for and the Chairman had failed to call for a meeting to discuss the issue.

“Some parents were of the opinion that there was no transparency, there was embezzlement of the association’s money and in-fighting among the coaches”, said Mwangi in an interview yesterday in Mombasa.

However, Suleiman said all the accounts had been audited by a professional body and opted to resign.

“I resigned on personal issues. I revived triathlon eight years ago and I am happy I did my best to popularise the sport among Kenyans,” he said.
