A team of 150 swimmers will represent the country at a regional swimming gala in Kampala, Uganda from April 20 - 26.
The squad was picked during the Private and International Preps Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) Inter County Swimming Championships at St. Christopher's School Nanyuki on Friday and Saturday. Over 500 swimmers participated in the gala.
The meet was presented by hosts St Christopher's School - Nanyuki, Beisa Hotel, Optiven Real Estate, Old House Hotel and Warwick Hotel.
St. Christopher's School Karen scooped the overall rotational shield previously held by rivals St. Christopher's School - Nanyuki.
The Karen team capitalised on endurance and speed supremacy to win the highly competitive gala which doubled up as a qualifier for upcoming Kampala Invitational Swimming Championship slated for late next month.
"We are glad our efforts did not go to waste since my swimmers have been training hard in order to win the shield. The title had been previously won by Oshwal Academy Nairobi, Lukenya Academy, Nyali School Mombasa and St. Christopher's School Nanyuki," said Paul Kinyanjui, coach - St. Christopher's School Karen.
He added that his focus was to qualify and represent the country in Dubai this year.
The best performers at the Kampala gala will qualify for the Hamilton Aquatics Summer Sizzler swimming Championships in Dubai in June.
"The teams will strive to improve on their performance in Uganda. Our target is to win the overall team trophy in Kampala," (PIPSSA) swimming coordinator, Mariko Gaya said.
"It will be the first time that PIPSSA teams will be taking part in the Dubai meet. We will prepare well so that we can do better."
Meanwhile, Nanyuki Baptist Church has been hosting a basketball tournament, which has attracted teams including Aga Khan Academy - Nairobi, Wood Creek School, Riara Group of Schools, Nanyuki High School and St. Christopher's School - Nanyuki.
The players are competing in both under 13 and under 15 boys categories.
In the Under 15, Aga-Khan Nairobi outclassed Wood creek 70-51, with St Christopher's taking down Riara School 41-23.
In the Under 13 final, Aga Khan Nairobi savored sweet victory over second overall placed St Christopher's School - Nanyuki with a 80-63 triumph.
