KILIFI, KENYA: It is a big relief for patients with chronic diseases like cancer after Kilifi County government commissioned Sh.104 million CT scan machine and three digital x-ray machines in the county's referral hospital.
Governor Amason Kingi said on Wednesday that the machines would help patients from Kilifi who were forced to travel over 40 Kilometers to Mombasa to seek the service.
The governor said that the county spent Sh.59 million to acquire the Anatom 16 Ct scan machine and another Sh.45 million to purchase three digital x-ray machines, at Sh.15 million each.
A CT scan machine and one digital x-ray machine had been fitted at the Kilifi county referral hospital while the other two digital x-ray machines had been installed in Malindi and Marikani hospitals that have been upgraded to county hospitals.
Inspecting the machines while accompanied by the executive committee member for health Ms Rachael Musyoki, Kingi said cases of patients moving out of the county to travel to either Mombasa or Nairobi for specialized medical disease scanning services will be no more as the patients could now get the services direct within the county.
