Nyanza Club’s ’s Joseph Atito set the early pace at the Dasani Golf Gala.

Playing off a handicap of 13, Atito went round the nine-hole Nyanza Club golf course in an impressive 38 stableford points made up of 16 points on the front nine and 22 points on the back nine.

Atito’s round started on a shaky note when he failed to score on the first two opening holes which run along the shore of Lake Victoria. Blaming the strong winds from the lake, Atito said he struggled off the tee.

"At the beginning of the round, I was very shaky and the winds got the better of me," Atito said.

"But I found my footing and played well for the rest of the round. Now I can only pray that my team mates perform well and we can claim a slot into the Grand Finale of the Gala."

Atito’s team mates include veteran golfer Sam Deya, Lukas Nyambogo and Noah Winja. Other top scoring golfers included Nyanza’s Harkirat Saini (pictured right) with 37 points and handicap 19 lady golfer, Rosemary Obara with 35 points.

Obara’s team mates include Sajin Shah, David Sate and Morris Otieno, who were yet to complete their rounds.

Two teams of four golfers each will qualify from the Nyanza qualification round into the Dasani Golf Gala Grand Finale to be held at the Muthaiga Golf Club on the 22nd of October.
