Fisa Academy blanked Kaloleni Homeless 6-1 as the Copa Coca-Cola tournament started in Nairobi at the weekend.
The one-sided match played at Nairobi Institute saw the winners going ahead when Albino Ali notched the opener in the 12th minute.
The diminutive Ali then set-up George Ochieng’, who notched a hat-trick in the match. Ochieng’s first goal came in the 16th minute, with the second coming five minutes later and then the third in the 30th minute.
Josephat Mbugua and Johannes Oloo finished off the rout with a goal in the 45th and 50th minutes to enable their team make it to the quarter-finals.
Charles Oduor scored the only goal for the losers through an 18th minute penalty. Smoth Ogutu missed a last minute penalty that would have taken Fisa’s tally to seven. Ofafa Jericho hit Buru Buru 2-0 in another match played at the same venue.
Stephen Leles scored both goals, first in the 30th minute and again in the 50th minute.
Bedjos Too Good
Bedjos were too good for Highway Secondary after registering a 3-1 win in a day in which Blue Stars also dispatched St John 2-0.
In the girls’ category, Future Talents and Pioneer were given a walk-over against their opponents who failed to turn up yesterday.
Blacks Cats also got a walk-over against Eastleigh High after they failed to show up.
Elsewhere, Fisa Academy coach Charles Omondi has praised organisers of the Copa Coca-Cola tournament for giving young boys an opportunity to compete.
Omondi said the tournament is filling an important gap in the absence of youth leagues in the country.
"Football Kenya does not have leagues and these boys have nowhere to showcase their talent. The tournament helps to fill this gap," he said.
Omondi also praised the manner this year’s event was organised, pointing out that it was professionally done.
"We knew who our opponents are a day earlier and most matches have started on time which is commendable for a youth tournament," added Omondi.
The tournament, sponsored by soft drink giant Coca Cola, continues.
