Achieving sustainable food production has remained one of the greatest challenges of many countries globally.
We have encountered our own set of obstacles in achieving this goal. These include drought and floods, diseases and lack of fertilisers and farm machinery.
Considering that farmers need to increase food production despite these challenges, we need to develop new ways of thinking.
The answer to our woes lies in crop research. Stakeholders in the agricultural sector need to develop long-term strategies with this solution in mind.
Extensive research must be carried out to identify plants able to withstand harsh climatic conditions, pests and diseases.
