Nigerian Afrobeats singer Tems has won her first individual Grammy Award at the 67th Grammy Awards. The event took place on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Tems won in the Best African Music Performance category for her song Love Me Jeje from her album Born In The Wild. She was nominated alongside Yemi Alade (Tomorrow), Asake & Wizkid (MMS), Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay (Sensational), and Burna Boy (Higher).

On stage, the 29-year-old singer expressed her excitement. "My heart is beating so fast. I'm so sorry - I do work out, but it's not showing up right now," she joked.

She went on to thank God, her team, and her mother. "Tomorrow is my mum's birthday, and this is her first Grammy. I just want to thank you, mum, because she's really done a lot for me and my brother."

Tems now has more Grammy wins than any other Nigerian artist. She previously won Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2023 for Wait For U, a collaboration with Future and Drake. Other Nigerian artists with Grammy wins include Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Siriku Adepoju, each with one award.

Love Me Jeje has been a global hit, amassing over 150 million streams on Spotify. Tems performed the song on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and during her headline set at Dubai's Sole DXB in December.

The song was also nominated for Best Afrobeats Song at the 2024 MTV Music Awards and is currently up for Best International Song at the upcoming NAACP Image Awards. Tems won the same award in 2023 for No Woman No Cry from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and in 2024 for Me & U.

This marks the second year of the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys. Both winners so far have been women, with South Africa's Tyla winning in 2024 for Water.Top of Form
