Nigerian singer, Falz who a few months ago hinted he would sue National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for banning his song has finally made good his threat.

Through his lawyers, Falz sued the commission after it banned his song 'This is Nigeria'.

He explained that the move by the commission is ‘flagrant breach of his right to freedom of thought, conscience and expression as guaranteed under Sections 38 and 39 of the Nigerian constitution.’

In his plea, the singer is demanding N100,000,000 (Sh28 million) for what he termed as exemplary damages for the wrongful and unconstitutional acts.

NBC sanctioned JODAJ Global Communication Limited for playing his songs ‘This is Nigeria’ three months ago alongside other songs. The commission claimed the song contained vulgar lyrics.

But he had defended the song saying it was socially conscious music that talks about the current situation of Nigerians.

Other songs the commission banned are Olamide’s “See Mary, See Jesus” and Wande Coal’s “Iskaba”.
