One memorable Wednesday evening in June 2012, a stranger who disguised herself as Daddy Owen’s fan walked into the Java Junction coffee shop accompanied by her sister.

It was just minutes after five o’clock in the evening. Daddy Owen was busy talking on his phone as he waited to seal one of his business deals over coffee. Upon lifting his eyes, his attention was captured by this beauty. His heart skipped a beat.

Farida, this lady who was later to become his wife sat at a corner of the café with her bowl of fruits playing catch. As their eyes met with suggestive shy smiles following, they realised the feeling was mutual and things were never to be the same again.

At the moment, little did Daddy Owen know that Farida was the person he had come to seal a business deal with. She had come to seal his second performance deal through an agency at Glaxo Smithkline where she worked as the group product manager.

“I knew she was my wife from that moment I set my eyes on her. Instantly, I felt that she was the bone of my bones and the flesh of my flesh,” Daddy Owen exclusively told Pulse minutes after the two tied the knot in a glitzy wedding ceremony held in Nairobi last Saturday.

“Farida is one woman who not only managed to tame me into a better person that I am today but also proved that she loved me for who I am as opposed to what I do,” a cupid-struck Daddy Owen charmed on.

That business and coffee evening, as Daddy Owen joined Farida at her table and stirred up a conversation, she was ready to take the hook. Phone numbers were exchanged. The game of chase began.

“Although I often watched him perform as a celebrity, I never imagined he would chose me over all the women he met including the star-struck ones,” Farida, a rather laid-back humble beauty who now doubles as her husband’s fashion designer remarked.

Two years on, their friendship culminated into deep affection prompting Daddy Owen to utter the magic words; “Will you marry me” – during one of their romantic outings. She accepted. Love was in the air.

The has been rumours that the two have been living under one roof since, something the on-honeymoon couple does not deny.

“I was quick to introduce Farida to my parents and this being the first girl I had ever introduced to them, they knew what it all meant. They knew that we were staying together. The thing is that we are not hiding the fact that we are in love and ready to settle together as man and wife,” Daddy Owen revealed.

The two have been together since and theirs was one of the most anticipated celebrity unions in the Kenyan showbiz scene. Besides, it has not all been a smooth ride as Farida confesses, just like it is the case in any other relationship, they too have encountered challenges on the way.

“Despite our differences, which is a normal thing in any relationship, I was loving and supportive of him without necessarily wanting to own him,” the new bride who Daddy Owen officially unveiled as his fiancée last year when the MTV award winning gospel artiste celebrated ten years of his music career, noted.

And she added: “I am now the woman in his life. I can confirm that ours was love at first sight. The first time we met, we were only having ice cream at Java contrary to what most say, that our love started during a music concert.”

“I believe in a girl who is more than intelligent. From there, I can think of physical attraction. My Farida has it all,” Daddy Owen concluded.
