A woman has denied repeatedly raping a primary school boy after allegedly luring him with food.
Violet Mbakaya, 37, was arrested but later released under ‘unclear circumstances’.
This prompted a human rights lobby to intervene.
Kakamega Human Rights Network (KHRN) representative told The Nairobian that they took the 15-year-old boy for medical tests at a Kakamega Hospital where it was reportedly verified that he was defiled by a person he calls ‘auntie.’
“The woman first lured the minor using a plate of rice and Irish potatoes, yams and later, beef stew with ugali. On three different occasions, she defiled him while her husband was away from home,” said Tom Mwanje of KHRN.

Mbakaya, however, brushed off the rights group allegations, claiming they were out to tarnish her family’s name.
“How can I sleep with a child who calls me mother? The human rights people, chang’aa and busaa brewers in the village ganged up against me. They coached the child to give false testimony against me. My husband has been fighting these brewers,” Mbakaya, who is married to a village elder, told The Nairobian.
The area sub-chief, Josephat Mutambo, confirmed that the case was reported to his office.
“I have heard that Violet has been doing ‘bad things’ to the boy. A few weeks ago, she was arrested and handed over to the cops. I don’t know what happened since she is now free,” he said.
The boy, a Class Five pupil, lived with his uncle, Ernest Mbakaya, after his parents separated. Ernest claimed his wife was innocent and residents only wanted to tarnish the family’s image.
