Crowd goes wild after Japanese ambassador performs Swahili song in Elgeyo Marakwet

Japan’s ambassador to Kenya Ryoichi Horie on Saturday, February 15, shook the internet after his video singing in Swahili went viral.

The video showed Ryoichi singing alongside his wife a Swahili love song and the fluency in which they sang became the center of attraction for many.

Singing Malaika, a popular Tanzanian love song in acapella, the duo showed their singing talents in an act that earned them a standing ovation from those present at the event in Elgeyo Marakwet.

He mentioned that it was not the first time he sang in a public event.

Before he sang, the ambassador called his wife on stage and spoke of a time when he sang before President Uhuru Kenyatta in a similar event in Kiambu.

He went on to explain that he sang because the conversation at the place was about the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and he did not want to interfere with local politics.

“I attended this kind of ceremony in Kiambu together with President Uhuru Kenyatta, I made a short speech and the President was talking about the BBI, but I had no intention of talking about BBI because I have no intention to interfere with domestic politics so in Kiambu we sang” stated Ryoichi.

He then asked for a guitar, and after he was informed there was none he decided to sing an acapella alongside his wife.
