Defections might not translate to votes

More defectors left the Opposition during the Jubilee charm offensive in Mombasa.

Those who defected included Tana River Governor Hussein Dado, Tana River Woman Representative Joyce Lay and the Tana River senator.

This does necessarily mean that the National Super Alliance (NASA) is losing its influence in Mombasa.

 It could be a case of individual leaders defecting and not the Mombasa people.

Any party may receive a large group of ‘defectors’. It does not mean all of their followers have made up their minds to quit.

Similar ‘defections’ might be witnessed when the Opposition launches a political counter-offensive in the region.
