Meru University was yesterday closed indefinitely after
students rioted following the death of a colleague.
The students claimed the Business Administration student
died after failing to get treatment at the institution's health center.
They paralyzed transport on the Meru-Maua highway, accusing
the university's administration of negligence. Police led by Tigania West OCPD
Joshua Opiyo had a hard time controlling the rioters, scores of whom were
arrested. Narman Mugambi, who received the student at the clinic, said he
vomited before falling down unconscious.
