Female circumcision is prevalent in many parts of the country although the practice is outlawed in Kenya.
Thousands of girls will be circumcised this month and in December. Some girls are already nursing their circumcision wounds in secrecy.
In some parts of the country like Tharaka and Meru regions, uncircumcised girls willingly take themselves to traditional surgeon to be ‘cut’.
The ‘cut’ is a bridge as girls cross from childhood to adulthood.
The practice and ceremonies have only gone underground. FGM is far from being eradicated.
