In 1963 a beautiful and bountiful country was born, out of hustle and tussle. Blood was shed, lives lost, businesses crumbled all for a good cause that is, the freedom and identity of each Kenyan. The dedicated, selfless and determined Mau Mau fighters had one vision in common a free Kenya and a valuable identity for every Kenyan. Their mission was to see an end of colonialism and a genesis of a free Kenya.
There is just no giving up to a determined human being, the Mau Mau’s mission was accomplished and vision achieved. Isn’t it just amazing as to what a purposed and determined Kenyan can do for fellow Kenyans? Many lost their lives, their families and loved ones all for the freedom and enjoyment of the future generation. Isn’t it a selfless gesture of Kenyans who dared to do the unbelievable for the happiness of other Kenyans?
Out of the fight, the blood shed & lost lives a beautiful country was born: Kenya a country with a beautiful people and picturesque environs. It is indeed a country endowed with a bountiful natural beauty ranging from; the Great Rift Valley a place with the largest, deepest and oldest lakes in the world and volcanic mountains; to the great Mount Kenya; to the Chyulu Hills located in Eastern Kenya a mountain range that forms a 100km long volcanic field; to Maasai Mara national reserve; to Kisumu Impala Sanctuary a great scene lying on the shores of lake Victoria.
After the colonialists left it was our responsibility as Kenyans to rise up take the wheel and drive the beautiful baby to greater economic developments. Now you and I can work, walk, live, own property anywhere and equality now makes more sense for you and me just because someone laid down their life.
Apart from the Mau Mau we have so many examples showing our true nature as Kenyans:

Firstly I bet you remember the Kenyans for Kenya initiative which was launched on 27th July 2011 for the purpose of mobilizing people to raise 500 million in four weeks towards relief for 3million Kenyans in the Northern part of Kenya who were dying out of hunger. As Kenyans we came out in large numbers to respond the call and the initiative reached its target.
Secondly we can all remember the Westgate terror attack in September 2013 where more than 200 people lost their lives. An initiative was started by Safaricom Foundation and Airtel Kenya to raise 60 million to help the victims. As Kenyans we responded in numbers and the target was achieved in 3days.
Thirdly have you ever noticed how we celebrate our own when they become champions, can we remember Yego, Rudisha winning Olympics, the Rugby Sevens win just to mention but a few.
The foregoing are just but a few of the instances where Kenyans have shown how we are naturally loving, caring, kind, generous, affectionate, protective, defensive of our own and peaceful. In addition to the natural resources, the beautiful environs we Kenyans are the beauty of Kenya.
It has come to a point that we need to reflect and ask ourselves where we went wrong and why is it that now we look at each other and react based on our tribes and not our Kenyan Identity. Could it be some of our politicians who are driven by selfishness and greed for power and money? Could it be that some of our leaders and politicians have forgotten the independent Kenya’s vision and mission of a united and developed Kenya? Could it be that some of our leaders and politicians think more of their wealth and power rather than us the citizens?
We Kenyans have for long endured the greed and selfishness of some of our politicians and leaders, we have been subjected to playing and dancing to their tunes. They have polarized us into our tribes. Now leadership is not about manifestos but tribal & “a game of numbers”, now you can be discriminated based on your tribe. Why are we allowing ourselves as Kenyans to be driven by some selfish and greedy politicians onto eroding Kenya’s beauty? Kenya’s beauty is being eroded to the extent that a Kenyan does not mind burning a fellow Kenyan’s house or killing a fellow Kenyan, or destroying the property of a fellow Kenyan just because of some selfish politician.
In 1997 & 2007 people fought, blood was shed, lives lost, property destroyed and the economy of the country badly hit not for a good cause as the Mau Mau fight but for the sake of satisfying the selfish whims of some politicians.
Isn’t it hurtful and unfair to kill loot or destroy your neighbor’s property just because of some politician? We should always remember that when we are hungry or in need it’s that neighbor who will bother to help not the politician, the goods and services that my neighbor offers everyday benefits me more than being a bridge to a politician goal full of greed and selfishness.
We need to always remember our Kenyan identity and beauty, as loving and caring people and say no to being polarized, no to being incited and no to being selfishly used. We need to let the selfish and greedy politicians know that we are not tissues to be used and dumped when convenient for them. We should always remember that the politicians need us more than we need them meaning that we are very valuable and the politicians are not worth me hating my fellow Kenyans or discriminating on them.
Kenya is crying and urging us to maintain its beauty. It is seeking Kenyans who will help it achieve its mission of a united and economically developed country. Kenya is crying for the unity of the 42 tribes. Let us take a bold step and aim towards the unity of us all regardless of our tribe or race.
