A Nyeri-based businessman and his employee were on Thursday night shot dead in a gangland style attack perpetrated by three men. Police said the killing of Peter Mwangi Muriu, popularly known as ‘Sang’ and his female employee was carried out by experienced attackers.
Muriu was attacked while driving at a sharp corner at Polepole area along the Nyeri-Kiganjo road, about 500 metres from the Kenya Police College.
The gunmen shot more than 40 bullets on the driver’s door and on the windscreen. A witness said he saw two people with guns, while the third was riding a motorcycle during the 7.50pm incident.
“They were armed with guns and they followed the vehicle until it grid to a halt. They pumped the vehicle with bullets on both sides and shot from the front,” he said.
Preliminary investigations indicted that the attackers may have positioned themselves in three different places where they ambushed the victims. Kieni East OCPD Michael Mbaluku said the woman died on the spot while Muriu died on the way to hospital.
