Marakwet, Kenya: I wish to defend Elgeyo/Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen against accusations by some leaders that he has become a sycophant of Deputy President William Ruto.
It is a joke of the highest order for some leaders to term the move by Murkomen to support Ruto’s agenda for the country sycophancy. There is nothing wrong with him and like-minded leaders supporting Ruto for the good of the Kalenjin community and the country at large.
It is saddening to learn that instead of Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter backing Ruto, they are being used by outsiders to undermine him for their own gains at the expense of service delivery to the people.
The style of leadership that has been demonstrated by the DP is for the good and development of this country and this is why Murkomen and other leaders like Senator Charles Keter have rallied behind him. Murkomen has made it clear that if supporting Ruto’s agenda for this country is being a political sycophant, so be it.

Leaders should be made to understand that we cannot achieve the much-needed development if we continue undermining the leadership of those committed to taking this great nation to the next level.
Collective responsibility
It is wrong of some individuals to continue engaging in a war of words with the top leadership in the land over issues that could be solved amicably without retarding development.
Leaders must learn to respect each other and engage in activities aimed at uniting Kenyans who are still divided along political and ethnic lines.
Governor Ruto and MP Keter should know that supremacy wars cannot help solve the challenges facing Kenyans.
There are problems ranging from high fertiliser and seed prices, and poor roads leading to major agricultural zones among others that are worth solving instead of politicking.
The days when wananchi supported leaders who engaged in empty rhetoric are long gone.
Leaders should come to terms with the fact that elections are over and it is time to work together in solving the problems facing wananchi instead of criticising others for their own selfish gains.
Development matters are a collective responsibility.
Leaders should, therefore, forge a common development agenda and put aside their political differences for the common good of the people.
Murkomen should ignore those calling him a sycophant and continue supporting the Deputy President for the sake of peace and development.
