Kenya will send three female boxers to the All African Games in Maputo, Mozambique, officials have confirmed.

Amateur Boxing Association Competitions Secretary, Patrick ‘Mont’ Waweru confirmed this development after earlier reports indicated National Olympic Committee of Kenya had only reserved ten slots for the senior men’s team.

Waweru said the players who are yet to be selected will train under national youth coach Musa Benjamin who is also handling the team that will take part in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Isle of man Islands in September.

The Pan African Games would be held from September 3-18.

Waweru, who is also the Kenya Police head coach, said the federation would send players in three weight categories namely light, middle and heavyweights.

Earlier fears of dropping female players from the Pan African Games had brought some disquiet among fast rising stars like Mary Muthoni of Nakuru ABC.

"This should be good news to the players and their coaches should take this development seriously as the time left for us to shape them up is very short," Waweru said.
