Kenyans win individual titles in motocross

Kenya riders Shivam Vinayak (MX1), Tutu Maina (MX2) and Apollo Mbuki (MX125) dominated individual classes as the third and last round of the FIM Central Africa Motocross series ended at Jamhuri Park track Nairobi.

Besides winning the season closing race the trio were crowned the East African champions.

But the Kenyans had to contend with playing second fiddle to the Ugandans who retained overall team victory in the series for the second year running. 

Kenyans won round three action with 1427 points against Uganda’s 1109 but the visitors clung to the regional team trophy by virtue of winning the first and second rounds held in Kampala earlier in the year.

On the final year standings, Uganda won the series with cumulative 4,644 points followed by Kenya and Tanzania on 2,813 and 363.

Kenya’s top rider Vinayak was all smiles after being declared the regional and national MX1 champion as were compatriots Maina and Mbuki.

“Kenya are still on top of the game when it comes to individual racing, but Ugandans continue to accumulate more points due to the number especially that they hosted the first two rounds,” said Vinayak, adding; “I urge all Kenyan competitors with bikes to come forward and help us give Ugandans a good fight.”

19-year-old Ugandan top rider Maxime Van Pee, who has pushed Vinayak in MX1 this season said:  “I didn’t ride so well today. This is my sixth year in racing and the fifth at Jamhuri Park and it feels really good.”
