CCTV footage has emerged showing the violent assault of Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi inside a hotel in Kisumu, in an incident that has sparked national outrage.
The short clip, now widely shared online, shows the senator pinned to the ground in a small café area as three to four attackers close in on him from multiple directions. Dressed in a striped shirt, Osotsi is seen attempting to shield himself while being slapped and kicked, crying out for help as the group surrounds him and blocks any escape.
One attacker in dark clothing appears to strike him directly, while another in white stands nearby, boxing him in as the assault continues. At one point, the senator is dragged across the floor amid the chaos.
Four waiters eventually intervene, stepping between the attackers and the senator in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. Their actions draw in others within the establishment, who help shield Osotsi and push back the assailants.

He was later evacuated from Kisumu and airlifted to Nairobi for treatment. The extent of his injuries has not been confirmed.
The attack has drawn condemnation from across the political divide. Siaya Governor James Orengo linked it to efforts to undermine the Linda Mwananchi rallies, where Osotsi is expected to play a key role.
“This is a clearly coordinated and organised pattern of intimidation aimed at silencing the voices of the people, coming as a second direct hit after the violent assault at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel on the eve of our Kakamega Rally,” he said.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino accused the Ministry of Interior of enabling the violence, while Suna East MP Junet Mohamed also condemned the incident and called for swift arrests.
“I condemn the dastardly assault on Vihiga County Senator Hon. Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu. Those who planned the attack, alongside those who carried it out, must be quickly arrested and arraigned in a court of law,” said Junet.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a probe, saying detectives are analysing the CCTV footage. Authorities say the motive remains unclear.
