Kalonzo fires back at Ruto over Tuju's woes, demands police withdrawn from hospital room

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hit back at President William Ruto following his remarks about former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju and his political allies.

Kalonzo took to his official X account to challenge the president to show what he called genuine friendship toward Tuju instead of criticising those around him.

He called on Ruto to stop what he described as unlawful interference with Tuju’s property and to ensure his rights are respected.

“William Ruto, you called us scavengers. If Tuju is truly your friend, prove it: STOP THE DAYLIGHT LAND GRAB. Respect his rights, and order the immediate withdrawal of police from his hospital room,” Kalonzo said.

Together with Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, Adv. Ndegwa Njiru, and others, we visited Hon. Raphael Tuju at Karen Hospital, Nairobi.

The comments followed Ruto’s address to residents in the Nyanza region, where he accused Tuju’s advisers in the opposition of misleading him for political gain.

“Tuju needs honest friends and advisers. They told him to go and hide in his bedroom and lie that he had been abducted. They are seeking prominence from Tuju,” Ruto said.

“We want Tuju to be advised so that he can secure his property and move forward. He does not need those people.”

Tuju has since moved to court seeking urgent intervention over police officers stationed at his hospital bedside. His legal team filed an application at the Milimani High Court Criminal Division seeking orders to bar police from guarding him while he receives treatment.

His lawyers told the Kibera Magistrate’s Court that Tuju had been admitted to Karen Hospital after sustaining injuries at Karen Police Station.

He had been scheduled to appear before Chief Magistrate Stellar Atambo to answer charges of allegedly providing false information to a public officer.

The court application seeks to restrain the Inspector General of Police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions from maintaining a presence in Tuju’s hospital room as the matter proceeds in court.
