Digital content creator and comedian Jaymo Ule Msee has announced his bid for the Nairobi senatorial seat in 2027, setting up what could be one of the most closely watched contests of the next election cycle.
In his declaration, Jaymo said Nairobi must be liberated from its tribal and political captors and rebuilt into a city defined by innovation, solid leadership and genuine oversight.
“Many people get confused by the senators’ ‘educated noise’, mistaking it for ‘intelligent’ vocal representation. Behind it is a power-hungry individual blinded by imaginary political ambitions at the expense of Nairobi's success,” Jaymo wrote in a Facebook post.
“It for this reason that Nairobi must rejuvenate and reactivate its lost glory that comes from solid representation, leadership and innovation devoid of noise from imagined political ambitions that leaves Nairobi with no productive oversight, further limiting innovation that spurs development and service delivery in Nairobi,” he continued, accusing the current leadership of prioritising theatrics and imagined ambitions over service delivery.
Jaymo, who built his name through comedy, digital storytelling and corporate communications, has in recent years fashioned himself into a sharp social commentator.
His entry into politics mirrors a broader shift among younger public personalities seeking elective office, following the path taken by figures such as musician-turned-MP Jaguar in Starehe, radio presenter and comedian Jalang’o in Lang’ata, and comedian MC Jessy, who once vied for the South Imenti seat.
Jaymo is positioning himself to challenge incumbent senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, known for his fiery style, strong parliamentary presence and active engagement in legal and political discourse.
Sifuna remains a prominent figure with a loyal base, setting the stage for a potentially competitive race should Jaymo’s bid gain traction.
