Three people died on the spot Tuesday morning while six others sustained injuries following a road accident near Makindu Town along Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the 11-seater matatu they were travelling in tried to overtake a lorry before another truck rammed their vehicle from behind.
"The driver of the matatu tried to overtake several vehicles when a lorry that was following us hit the vehicle from behind," said a passenger who is a teacher at Kasuvi and was traveling to work in the morning.

Two occupants of the lorry and one from the matatu died on the spot while six others were rushed to Makindu sub county Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
The two vehicles were moving towards Mombasa.
The bodies have been moved to the same hospital morgue.
