Police in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, are holding their colleague for allegedly attacking and assaulting a 31-year-old man in a robbery attempt.
The man is said to have been on his way home from Shamberere National Polytechnic, where he had attended a freshers’ night, when he was attacked.
According to the Occurrence book (ref. OB 02/31/05/2025), Kellybon Muchina was attacked at Shamberere Market, Alufu Junction.
It is alleged that Muchina was attacked by two men and seriously injured, but was rescued by members of the public who took him to Vena Hospital for treatment. He had sustained serious deep cut injuries in his right hand.
Members of the public also managed to arrest the attackers, one of whom, it turned out, was a police officer stationed at Imbiakhlao Police Station, Ingavira Police Post.
Tear gas canister
The police also arrested 24-year-old Byrum Ndegwe, who is said to be a first-year student at Shamberere National Polytechnic, the same institution that Muchina had attended the fresher’s night.
According to police, they recovered a police raincoat, two police berets with no head badge, and a tear gas canister from the suspects.
Malava Sub-County Police Commander Suleiman Majondo confirmed the incident, stating that they were waiting for the victim to present a P3 Form before they process the suspects and charge them in court.
“A police officer was indeed involved in an assault case, and he is in our custody at Kabras Police Station, and we are just waiting for the victim to produce a P3 form before we can arraign the suspects anytime from today,” said Majondo.
