MOMBASA: The Kenya Police Service has floated an international tender to buy three new helicopters and overhaul the existing three Mi-17 helicopters.
In a paid-up press advertisement, the office of the Inspector General of Police indicated it was seeking to buy new twin-turbine engine helicopters, two utility helicopters and one troop carrier helicopter.
Only manufacturers are eligible for the first tender which is for supply and delivery of new turbine engine helicopters. The second tender bid is for overhauling of three Mi-17 helicopters.
"Prices quoted should be net of all taxes and delivery, testing and commissioning of the equipment (where applicable) must be either in Kenya shillings, US dollars, Euros or Sterling Pound and they should remain valid for one hundred and fifty days (150) from the closing date of the tender," the advert states.
Interested eligible bidders can obtain the tender documents from the National Police Service, Jogoo House A off Harambee Avenue along Taifa Road, Nairobi. Deadline for submission of tender documents is April 14.

The current fleet includes three Russian-built MI-17, one Bell-206L-4, one Bell 206L, one Bell 47L-(1), a B0105 and several fixed-wing aircraft of the range Cessna Caravan 208, Cessna 402 twin engine and Cessna 310 twin engine.
The Kenya Police Airwing oversees operation of a fleet of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft at Wilson Airport.
