Political family dynasties have taken center stage in Isiolo South after the Jubilee Party nominated Bina Tubi as its candidate for the upcoming parliamentary by-election—barely a month after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) endorsed her brother, Tubi Mohamed, for the same seat.
On Thursday, January 15, Jubilee officially unveiled Bina Tubi, daughter of the late Isiolo South MP Tubi Bidu Mohamed, as its flag bearer, setting up a rare sibling showdown backed by rival political parties.
In announcing her nomination, Jubilee cited Bina Tubi’s strong political lineage and deep roots in the constituency, pointing to the legacy of her late father, a long-serving Jubilee Party legislator whose leadership significantly shaped local politics and development.
Bina has since confirmed her intention to contest the seat, stating that she hopes to continue her father’s legacy.
The late MP was elected in 2022 on a Jubilee ticket before passing away in November 2025.
For Jubilee, retaining the Isiolo South seat is viewed as crucial to sustaining its influence in the region and reaffirming the political relevance of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, despite his retirement from active politics.
Meanwhile, UDA had earlier issued a nomination certificate to Tubi Mohamed on December 30, 2025.
The certificate was presented by UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar Hassan at the party’s Nairobi headquarters ahead of the by-election scheduled for February 26, 2026.
UDA officials described Tubi Mohamed as a consensus candidate, saying his nomination was unanimously endorsed by local elders and community leaders following his father’s death.
The decision was also supported by Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo’s political camp and Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya, both of whom pledged to respect the elders’ resolution.
