Netizens are calling on human rights groups to help secure the release of a man who was arrested by plainclothes officers outside the National Treasury building.

The middle-aged man clad in a red jacket and khaki trousers is seen being whisked away by well-built police officers.

He was protesting the high cost of living but resisted arrest when the law caught up with him.

Eye-witnesses said the unidentified man was seen along Harambee House around midday and was displaying a banner written ‘lower food prices'.

He later proceeded to the Treasury building manned by armed police officers.

Social media users called for his release, noting he had nothing wrong.

Facebook user Gerald Bitok wrote: “So the same police who complain about low salaries and dilapidated living conditions believe the cost of living is low or what's the point of contention?”

Lydia Mathia posed: “One person with all those officers? Wow! Why is he being handled that way?”

Rukia Lulu wondered why Human Rights groups are silent over the issue.
