Police are hunting for a Judiciary officer attached to Karatina Law Courts who escaped after allegedly hacking to death her husband and daughter on Friday.

The woman is reported to have gone berserk and hacked her husband Charles Murimi to death before attacking her two children killing a teenage daughter at their Nyeri rural home in Ndia.

“She used an axe to attack her husband before turning on her children killing a Class Eight daughter and injuring her 21-year-old son,” said a witness.

Neighbours said the woman fled the scene after hacking the two and leaving them unconscious in their house.

Murimi’s body was found in the bedroom while that of their daughter was in another room.

"I looked for my colleague, who accompanied me to the scene, where we found our manager, Murimi, lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom,” Fredrick Munyiri, Murimi’s colleague told the media.

The bodies of the two were taken to the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital morgue.

While confirming the incident, Kirinyaga County Commissioner Jim Njoka cautioned couples to stop unnecessary fights and instead use dialogue to sort out their issues.

Neighbours said the two were always fighting one another and that was not the first time.

The Kenya government has adopted strict measures to counter the spread of the virus including the curfew, but the measures have been blamed on the rising cases of domestic disputes.

Last week, the National Council on Administration of Justice reported “a significant spike in sexual offences in many parts of the country in the past two weeks.”

They noted that “in some cases, the perpetrators are close relatives, guardians and/or persons living with the victims.” The report pledged that “the courts will consider giving directions on early hearing dates in such cases.”
