I am a peace loving resident of Mombasa but what happened on Friday left a bitter taste in my mouth. I was away when I got a call that county askaris had come to my residence which is in the interior lane where I had parked my tuktuk and they carted it away with a towing vehicle.

I pleaded with them on phone but they turned me down saying that they had clamped it and they were taking it away. When I got to their offices at Tudor office, Tyson was asked and he said that it was an open Garage but because it had been towed I had to pay 4000 for the towing vehicle.

Where did I go wrong by buying a tuktuk? I have been paying my levies for the last 4 years without fail and the askari came to my home and tow away my tuktuk .Aren’t they getting enough revenue from kongowea market, houses, matatus and tuktuks to subject citizens to humiliating experience of paying towing charges to the county government?

I support the county in all aspects, but coming to my parking yard and towing my tuktuk is a shock and an understatement. I have not stolen anything. Have the county revenue targets failed. We voted for good leadership but if doing business in Mombasa means that you have to shed tears and get harassed, I would rather sell my tuktuk and sit in the streets to beg.
