Kenya: The Methodist Church in Kenya, has lauded the new laws gazetted by the Communications Authority, outlawing the practice by some evangelical churches of asking for 'seed' money from faithful.
The church's Presiding Bishop Joseph Ntombura said the law will ensure only preachers who selflessly preach the word on television and radio programmes, are given airtime.
"The laws do not affect the Methodist Church, AIC, Anglican, Presbyterian and other mainstream churches. We have our own constitutions and well-grounded structures, unlike some others who 'sell' religious services," said Mr Ntombura, who was accompanied by former Presiding Bishop Lawi Imathiu, Kaaga Synod Bishop Catherine Mutua and other members.
Bishop Ntombura said mainstream churches have structures that address how they carry out religious activities.
