Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi

Amani leader Musalia Mudavadi has tendered his resignation from United Democratic Forum (UDF), with effect from June 3.

Mudavadi, who vied for presidency on a UDF party ticket, said he quit the party to fully concentrate on the Amani National Congress (ANC).

"I kindly thank you for having allowed me to be a member of your party. I wish the party well in its future endeavours,” stated Mudavadi in his resignation letter dated June 2.

He said he made the decision in order to focus his energies in building ANC into a formidable political movement for Kenyans.

Mudavadi added that he would be running on an ANC ticket in 2017, after broad consultations with the broader Amani family of MCAs, MPs and supporters.

The party will soon start registering members in readiness for 2017 General Election.

“Mudavadi is now the Party Leader of ANC and calls on supporters to prepare for membership registration exercise to be rolled out soon in preparation for ANC launch by the end of the year,” said Mudavadi’s Press Secretary Kibisu Kabatesi in a statement.

ANC has so far established offices in more than 24 counties as part of a compliance requirement to secure full registration.

In a past interview, ANC Secretary-General Godfrey Osotsi said they have recruited more than 200,000 members in a continuous programme since it was issued a provisional registration certificate by Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung’u in March this year.

According to the Political Parties Act 2011, a provisionally registered party also qualifies for full registration if it has a minimal membership of 200 voters registered for parliamentary elections in each region and has on its governing body a member from each region that is a resident or is registered to vote there, among others.
