Semi-automatic washer

The semi-automatic washing machine is well suited for Kenyan homes.

It adapts well to space, water and electricity issues. For starters, you don't need piped water and you can pour water into the machine's wash tub using a bucket.

You can skip the rinse cycle and rinse by hand and you can also choose whether to spin or not spin the clothes after rinsing.

Even if you spin, you have to dry your clothes on the lines but the clothes dry faster.

It comes handy in rainy weather when you only have a few hours to dry your clothes.

This flexibility really saves on electricity and water and its long electric cable allows for even more flexibility. They retail for Sh16,000 - 19,000 - Eve Woman writer

Aerelight desk lamp

The Aerelight Desk lamp looks appropriately classy and futuristic, offers plenty of brightness from the OLED panel and costs Sh24,000.

It has a Qi charger built into the base that can charge your phone wirelessly, all of which helps justify at least some of the cost.

With its beautiful and near-flawless build, it does not take up much workstation, and all three colour varieties - black, red, or silver - look fancy.

You turn it on with just a touch, as opposed to a switch. Tap once to turn it on at a low setting, tap again to bump it up to medium and tap a third time to crank it up to full brightness.

A fourth tap will shut it back off. Tap on the base, the neck or the head - anywhere on the metal frame will work. If you are worried about heat, do not be, as the OLED panel barely gets warm as you leave it on, and the body itself stays cool. - Rose Kwamboka
