Kisumu, Kenya: Six suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Nyakach MP Aduma Awuor’s parents will be remanded at Pap Onditi Police station for the next seven days.
This was after Nyakach DCIO Richard Mathenge swore an affidavit before Nyando Law Courts Resident Magistrate Paul Wechule, seeking to have the suspects detained to allow security agents to complete investigations.
Mathenge told the court that he arrested the six and required them to remain in custody for a week to assist in the completion of investigations.
The six who were Monday arraigned in court over the incident that occurred last Thursday are; Victor Ogola, Jannes Ndege, Geofrey Otieno, Solomon Juma, Naomi Kerubo and Judith Achieng.
He said that due to the vastness of Nyakach area, they have not been able to record statements of witnesses hence require more time to do so.
“So far investigations into the matter are incomplete. What I have said is true to the best of my knowledge,” he told the court.
The charges were however not read to the suspects, pending conclusion of interrogations. The six did not object to the request of the DCIO with each of them individually confirming the same to the court.
“The application has been allowed pending completion of investigations,” said the resident magistrate.
The case will be mentioned on November 18 this year.
Aduma’s parents Francis and Mary Owuor were murdered in their homestead at Nyakach in Kisumu County. The elderly couple’s house was torched.
The father’s body was burnt beyond recognition while the mother had cuts and bruises on the face.
