Nairobi, Kenya: Students in both public secondary and primary schools will break for half term during the fourth coming General Election, Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo has announced.
Mutula said that students would break for half term beginning February 28 to March 7 to create room for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to use the school facilities to conduct the polls.
He said the ministry designed the 2013 school calendar taking into consideration the March 4 election.
“Learners will therefore break for half term beginning February 28 to March 7. This half term will create room for the IEBC to use the facilities,” he announced.
Speaking while releasing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCPE) results In Nairobi on Monday, Mutula noted that parents and several education stakeholders had raised the red flag that the coming polls would disrupt learning.
