Former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi is holidaying at the Kenyan Coast.

His visit into the country remained  a highly guarded secret right from the time his top of the range plane touched down at the Malindi airport from where he was chauffeured to his holiday hide out.

The super rich Berlusconi jetted into Malindi resort town, about 130 kilometres from Mombasa city on Saturday morning aboard his privately owned jet belonging to his firm Media Set.

Sources in Malindi confirmed to The Standard that Berlusconi took up residence at the popular Lion in the Sun resort, an exclusive resort near Malindi Marine park.

Lion in the Sun is the famed dwelling owned by former formula one owner, Silvio Briatore who accompanied the former controversial PM  in this trip. It has often been described in the hospitality industry as an elite retreat hotel.

A source privy to the former Italian leader’s itinerary said that he is on a weeklong Spa treatment theraphy for overweight.

The former PM is expected to jet out of Malindi for Italy on Wednesday.

Past occupants at Lion in the Sun which is member of the giant Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers and Caterers (KAHC) include sports star John Galliano, super model Naomi Campbell and Bono

In the year2009, Tatler, the celebrated high fashion magazine awarded the Lion in the Sun Spa with the title of “The world’s best spa”.
