An elderly couple was found dead with their private parts chopped off in Jaribuni village of Kaloleni, Kilifi County.
They are believed to have been murdered Wednesday night on suspicion of practicing witchcraft.
Kaloleni Deputy OCPD, John Kipyego, said the body of the man was found lying inside the house while that of his wife a few metres from the house. Their attackers slit their throats.
“Unknown people broke into the couple’s house, hacked them to death and chopped off their private parts,” stated Kipyego Wednesday.
According to Kipyego the couple who stayed in a secluded place had been suspected to be practicing witchcraft.
The bizarre incident took villagers and the police by surprise. The police have launched investigations into the killings.
But residents accused the police of turning a blind eye to judicial murders committed by known villagers in broad day light. No one has ever been arrested or charged.
The killings have forced many old people to flee their homes and seek shelter in protection centres.
Meanwhile, anti-witchcraft busters have surfaced claiming to possess power to neutralise the power of witches.
“We have not been able to arrest the suspects as members of the public have not been willing to give information on them.” He added.
