Four children are among 11 suspects arrested in the investigation into the killing of a head teacher.

Three Class Seven pupils are from SDA Iboi Academy in Tinderet District, Nandi, which Wilson Chepkwony headed before his body was found on the Kapsabet-Nandi Hills road on Sunday morning.

The other, a Class Eight candidate, is from another school.

Kapsabet OCPD Nelson Okioga told The Standard that police were still going on with the investigation into the murder.

“We are doing our best to ensure that justice is done. We urge the public not to interfere with police investigation,” Okioga said.

Found dead

It was reported that the deceased was drinking with his friends on Saturday night before he left for home on a boda boda only to be found dead the following morning.

Meanwhile, elders conducted a ritual at the scene of the headmaster’s murder in Meswo village and the mortuary where the body is lying.

An old man, believed to be bestowed with divine powers, led the exercise conducted on Tuesday. His identity was withheld.

Hundreds of angry residents turned up to participate in the ritual before the initiator and family members of the deceased left for the mortuary where another secret ritual was conducted.

Chief of Kiminda location, Ms Priscilla Metto, said Chepkwony’s family and residents agreed to seek divine powers despite the arrest of 11 suspects.

“They called on the killers to confess so that a forgiveness ritual could be conducted. No one confessed and a curse was declared,” said the chief.

She said all the suspects were from her location and had been locked up in Kapsabet police cells. They are expected to appear in court to face charges.

Meanwhile, three suspects caught stealing in West Indies estate in Eldoret were beaten to death. The three were nabbed while ferrying household goods.

“They were cornered after the residents saw them loading TV sets, a machine and music systems into their vehicle,” said the Uasin Gishu OCPD Erastus Muthamia.

He added the gangsters were first interrogated and then lynched by members of the public on Tuesday evening.

Mrs Jane Wamalwa, a witness, said she saw some people running towards a saloon car parked at the estate before a commotion ensued.

The suspects are said to have stolen household items from Moi’s Bridge in Uasin Gishu County before staging the theft in West Indies.
