Former football legends met in Bondo District to accord former Harambee Stars captain Peter Oronge, 74, a heroic burial.
The funeral at Sakwa-Uyawi village in Bondo constituency was one of a kind.
As some mourners could not hold back their emotions for losing the former football wizard, others were excited to meet with some of the country’s football legendaries who traveled from various parts of the country to pay their tribute to Oronge.
Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, and Finance Assistant minister, Oburu Odinga, were among the dignitaries at the ceremony on Saturday.
The PM addressed the mourners before he left for another funeral. But it was the former Harambee Stars striker Joe Kadenge who stole the show.
He introduced former teammate Ambrose Nyapada and former Kisumu All Stars players. Oronge helped form the club.
Former Hot Stars players were led by Apollo Ndeda, a former Harambee Stars team manager.
Memories of 1950s-60s were relived by the former players as Kadenge recounted his days with Oronge as they played for the country.
Said Kadenge: "1958 was a great year for Oronge and us. He led us to beating Uganda 2-0 and lifting the Gossage Cup before colonial Governors at City Stadium.
